1. What does design certification mean?

Gas connectors are design certified, meaning that their product design has been proven to meet the requirements of a specific industry standard (such as CSA). A recognized testing agency conducts the required tests and inspections required for design certification. CSA International provides the design certification for Dormont’s gas connection products.

2. Are Dormont Safety System™ gas connectors design certified?

Yes, CSA International design-certifies the entire line of Dormont gas products.

3. Do any Dormont products carry NSF approval?

Dormont Foodservice gas connectors are approved under NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for cleanability in non-food zone applications. These are gas connectors with a heavy-duty, antimicrobial PVC coating.

4. What are commonly used terms for appliance installations?

Gas appliances are often classified in two distinct categories – stationary and movable. These distinctions enable proper selection of a gas connector for an application.

5. What is a stationary appliance?

A stationary appliance is moved infrequently after installation. This typically refers to a gas range, a dryer (residential) or commercial gas equipment that is on straight legs. These appliances are almost always installed with a flexible gas appliance connector.

6. What is a fixed appliance?

A fixed appliance is not moved after it is installed. An example is a gas furnace, water heater or boiler. A fixed appliance is installed with black iron pipe (with a drip leg) and sometimes with a residential gas connector for the last short connection.

7. What is a movable appliance?

A movable appliance is moved frequently during normal operation for cleaning and servicing. This commonly refers to commercial gas cooking equipment that is mounted on casters (wheels) for easy cleaning. Movable commercial cooking installations must use a movable gas appliance connector that is produced to the requirements of ANSI Z21.69.

8. How are these different connectors identifiable?

• Stationary foodservice appliance connectors are braided with yellow PVC coating. For residential applications (ranges, dryers, etc.), connectors are available without coating, with a yellow or black epoxy coating or a gray PVC coating.
• Movable appliance connectors with Stress Guard® technology have a blue PVC antimicrobial coating.
